S. Rick Armstrong Exhibition (Pittsburgh, PA) — Filmmakers Galleries will exhibit Notes, a series of digital prints by local photographer S. Rick Armstrong. The show will be on view from January 13 through February 19, 2006. On Friday, January 13 a reception will be held from 7:00-9:00pm. It is free and open to the public. Through his landscape photography Armstrong seeks to celebrate the seasonal variation and vibrant life of the Pennsylvania forest. "My favorite thing is to go exploring, camera in hand" he says, "and let photographic moments present themselves in the form of light and rhythm." In his work, which is both color and black and white, he often employs artificial lighting to exaggerate and call attention to nature. The show also includes a collection of environmental photos from his travels to Italy, Spain, France, Scotland, Peru and Brazil. Here, he explores the interaction of social relationships with the forces of nature. Armstrong went to college in Minneapolis where he worked as a filmmaker and photographer for twenty years. He currently resides in Murrysville, PA. Filmmakers Galleries are located at 477 Melwood Avenue, North Oakland. Open Monday through Friday, noon to 5:00, and weekend evenings.
