Pittsburgh Center for the Arts Announces Partnership
with Butler Health System
(Pittsburgh, PA)
-- Pittsburgh Center for the Arts has been named art consultant for a permanent
art installation in the atrium of the Butler Health System
in Butler, PA. The newly
constructed facility is scheduled to open in April 2010.
The design of the new Butler Health System will provide
a soothing, welcoming and familiar space for the community. The beautiful new
space will feature a rich palette of colors and textures throughout, evoking
the surrounding landscape. The
concept of bringing the outdoors inside was a key design element from the
earliest planning stages.
To further enhance this environment and help support the
surrounding community, Butler Health System is commissioning
artists from Western Pennsylvania for the project. Artists
working in any media may submit a proposal to be considered for permanent installation
in the atrium space, which will embody the theme of healing and wellness.
Butler Health System is a system of
healthcare services that includes outpatient locations, medical associates, and
resource centers throughout Butler County. Butler Memorial Hospital is the
centerpiece of the health system. Founded in 1898, the independent regional
hospital attracts patients from throughout Western PA.
Pittsburgh Center for the Arts is a non-profit
community arts campus, founded in 1945, that offers arts education as well as
contemporary art exhibitions. It provides services and resources for individual
artists throughout Western PA. In January 2006, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts
merged with Pittsburgh Filmmakers.
Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the
Arts is requesting proposals for the commissioned art installation at Butler
Health System. On December 9 an informational session and opportunity to tour the site takes place at
4:00pm. Applicants are encouraged to see the space, its design opportunities
and the original architectural intent. RSVP by December 4 to jasdeep@pittsburgharts.org.
The application deadline is January 15, 2010. For
more information about the application process, please contact Jasdeep Khaira, Director of
Artist & Member Services, by phone at 412-681-5449, or by email at jasdeep@pittsburgharts.org.
