Artists Participating in Media Tonic II (Pittsburgh, PA) — When Pittsburgh Filmmakers transforms its facility on June 25 into a vast exhibition space for Media Tonic II, it will showcase the creative energies of 63 artists with installations, animation, still photos, films, sculptures, and digital images displayed throughout the Oakland-based media arts center. The event includes live music, stage performances, prizes, food, beer and wine. Musical guests include Jim diSpirito and national recording artist John Doe. Tickets ($15) are available at www.mediatonic.org, at Theater Square box office, at Filmmakers’ theaters, or at 477 Melwood Avenue. There are 42 local artists participating in Media Tonic II as well as several from across Pennsylvania (six PCA fellowship winners among them), New York, North Carolina, Iowa, California and Arizona. There are also international artists from Japan, China, and Germany. The art installations will utilize these spaces at Pittsburgh Filmmakers: 1 Building projection; 3 Library installations; 13 Large scale installations (Sound Stage, windows, stairway, classrooms); 12 Small/Medium scale installations (classrooms, hallways); 12 Video works in two Screening Rooms; 1 Film installation inside a Port Authority bus located outside; 1 Installation/Performance piece outside on sidewalk (red carpet); 2 Restroom installations; 1 Radio broadcast with live music; 1 Multimedia piece in Melwood Screening Room with live music and visuals (Jim DiSpirito will perform with this group in addition to performing with his band, Big World). In addition: Two performance groups, Attack Theater and Khafif Middle Eastern Music and Dance, will participate; two bands from Philadelphia, RED and Eyelevel, will perform in Melwood Screening Room; and Modern Formations Gallery will have a 3-D installation.
