Filmmakers Galleries presents CMUÕs Robot 250
Student Showcase, Mashings
(Pittsburgh, PA) – As part
of PF/PCAÕs Biennial 2008 exhibit, Filmmakers
Galleries (477 Melwood Ave) presents Mashings, a showcase of robotic and mechatronic
artwork by a group of Carnegie Mellon
UniversityÕs undergraduate students. It is on view July 11 – July 27. A
reception will be held on Saturday, July 12, 7:00 – 9:00pm. It is free and open to the public.
The sculptural and kinetic works
in this exhibit feature a variety of imaginative uses of Robot 250 technology.
Some pieces are motor-driven deterministic machines, some are
electro-mechanical systems, some are robotic. One interactive piece sure to
engage viewers is a re-animated pig's heart, housed in a glass cabinet, that
responds to nearby breathing.
The Robotics Institute at CMU has
joined the Pittsburgh 250 celebration by emphasizing educational and creative
opportunities in robotics, tagged Robot 250. Among the CMU students featured in the show are: Claire
Hoch, Greg Saul, Katherine Rubinstein, Ben Bigelow, RJ Tripodi, James
Chan,Tessa Park, Jiho Park, Lea Albaugh, and Rexy Tseng.
In addition, through this collaborative partnership with CMUÕs Robotics
Institute, PF/PCA is premiering a robotic artwork called Double-Taker
(Snout), by internationally renowned artist
Golan Levin. The PCA campus in Shadyside is hosting the outdoor project during
the Biennial 2008 exhibit to coincide with the Robot 250 celebration. A
reception for Levin will be held at the PCA on July 18, 7:00
– 9:00pm.
