Pittsburgh Filmmakers Announces
Karen Kaighin Exhibition

(Pittsburgh, PA) — Filmmakers Galleries will exhibit windows, a series of framed color prints by photographer Karen Kaighin. It is on view from April 8 through May 15, 2005. On Friday, April 15 a reception will be held from 7:00-9:00pm. It is free and open to the public.

According to Kaighin, these photographs represent a slow, methodical gaze at time taking a break. The subjects are mostly interiors, parts of people, and light. Metaphorically, windows have been used time and again. They pull our gaze outward and inward day after day. "Sometimes the smudge on the window is the subject," she explains, "because that's how it looks when you're myopic and daydreaming."

Kaighin earned her BFA in photography at Philadelphia College of Art and her teaching certification at the University of Pittsburgh. Regionally she has exhibited her work at Silver Eye Center for Photography, Slippery Rock University Gallery, Westmoreland Museum of American Art and several annual Associated Artists of Pittsburgh exhibitions. She currently teaches photography at Pittsburgh Filmmakers and The Ellis School.

Opening on the same date, in the outer gallery of Filmmakers Galleries, is an exhibit of digital photography by local artist David Kent. His work can be seen online at fotolog.net/parsnip

Filmmakers Galleries are located at 477 Melwood Avenue, North Oakland. Open Monday through Friday, noon to 5:00, and weekend evenings. For more information call 412-681-5449 or go to www.pghfilmmakers.org.
