Pittsburgh Filmmakers and Bricolage Theatre

Present In Service

(Pittsburgh, PA) – Pittsburgh Filmmakers and Bricolage Theatre will present In Service: Authentic Narrative From Iraq to Pittsburgh, a multimedia event at the Harris Theater on Oct. 4 – 7 and Oct. 11 – 14, 2007.  Shows are at 8:00pm; tickets are $24 and can be ordered by phone at 412-456-6666, or online at www.pgharts.org.

The multimedia event features authentic voices and images from those who have served in Iraq. Presented as a collaborative project by Bricolage Theatre Company and Pittsburgh Filmmakers (PF/PCA), it includes live narration, video recordings and still photography to create a powerful form of municipal theater. At the heart of the presentation are soldiers sharing autobiographical live accounts of their time in Iraq.

"Filmmakers is very pleased to be partnering with Bricolage Theatre Company on this powerful and relevant project," says Andrew Swensen, director of Pittsburgh Filmmakers. "ItÕs a privilege to give artistic voice to Pittsburghers whoÕve served in Iraq in some capacity – whether as service personnel or as diplomats. To do it by bringing live theater together with media artists, is extremely gratifying and exciting."

As part of In Service, two related exhibits by award-winning photojournalists are running concurrently at Filmmakers Galleries in North Oakland. On view through Oct. 21 is Purple Hearts, by Nina Berman. ItÕs a series of interviews and photos she took of wounded soldiers returning from Iraq. Also on view is Grave and Deteriorating: Images of the Iraq War, by Chris Hondros.

Funding for this event has been provided by The Jack and Tally McKee Memorial Fund, the Paul E. Mochnick and Henry B. Grant Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation. Additional support for In Service comes from the Sprout Fund, PittArts, the Henry John Simonds Foundation, The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Rob Long Studio, Jeff Swensen Photography, and Getty Images.
