Filmmakers Announce Andrew Johnson Video/Digital Exhibit

(Pittsburgh, PA) – Filmmakers Galleries present a new site-specific digital exhibit by Andrew Johnson, on view from January 18 through March 2, 2008. An opening reception will be held on Friday, January 18 at 5:30pm. It is free and open to the public.

In Pluck, an animated video loop offers an invisible magician to cover and uncover human figures – a work that explores injustice, endurance and sacrifice. A digital collage titled, And Gazelles? And Gazelles, functions as a ritualistic call and response. FOLD is a response to the crisis in photography, representation, and world peace.

Trained in sculpture, painting, and film, Johnson is a world traveler. He earned his MFA at Carnegie Mellon University while serving as an artist-in-residence at the PA Department of Corrections curating inmate art. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at Carnegie Mellon. His website is www.rootingfortheradical.com

Filmmakers Galleries are located at 477 Melwood Avenue, North Oakland. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, noon to 5:00, and during evening films. Free and open to the public. For more information call 412-681-5449, or visit: www.pghfilmmakers.org
