Pittsburgh Filmmakers has developed a national reputation as one of the country's largest and most respected art centers. We are recognized as the regional authority on independent media, having made a long-term commitment to contemporary media art in the greater Pittsburgh area.
Classes at the Pittsburgh Filmmakers School of Film, Photography & Digital Media are for students age 17 and up. Youth interested in media arts classes can enroll with our Filmmakers at the Center program.
The School of Film, Photography and Digital Media offers one of the most comprehensive artistic and professional media arts curricula in the United States. Pittsburgh Filmmakers is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), offering college level courses, both credit transcript and non-credit, to aspiring artists.
We offer classes in all phases of film, photography and video production from scriptwriting, pre-production and budgeting through camerawork, lighting, sound, editing, directing and producing. Small classes enable students to work closely with experienced faculty members. While our curriculum emphasizes hands-on production, it is complemented by courses that underscore history, critical theory and technical theory.
Because they are part of a fine arts program, all classes stress aesthetics and the use of techniques to create polished works of art.
