Web Design
Prerequisite: Photographic and Motion Principles or Introduction to Digital. 42 classroom hours.
This course provides a solid, broad-based foundation for Web page and site design.
Unlike digital design for the press, designing for the World Wide Web includes an
understanding of interface functionality and user-friendliness in addition to literate,
visual communication. Developing an interface framework with clear navigation
through ideas, images and text is crucial for successful Web projects. Beginning
with a technical and historical backdrop the class continues with an introduction
to HTML; image compression; using browser-safe color; and producing web
pages with a WYSIWIG editor. Students produce individual web pages and a site
for their final project. Grading is based on assignments, written exams and class
participation. In addition to tuition, a $70 course fee is charged.
