Photographic and Motion Principles
Prerequisite: None. 42 classroom hours.
This hands-on course introduces students to key photographic concepts and the basics of shooting and editing film and digital video. After a brief review of the Macintosh Operating System, students work with super-8 motion picture cameras while making short films, 35mm still cameras while studying photographic exposure and composition, and mini-dv cameras as they create short video projects. (Those unfamiliar with Macs may opt to take "Introduction to Digital" prior to or concurrent with this course.) Students develop an understanding of composition, image sequencing, camera movement, continuity, non-linear editing and time/space manipulation. All equipment is provided. A limited amount of film and processing is also provided, but students purchase their own videotape. Grading is based on student projects and written exams. In addition to tuition, a $70 course fee is charged. Students pay for their own project supplies and other expenses.
