ABOUT US

Our Mission

Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts is committed to the artist and the advancement of artistic excellence in visual arts – specifically film, video, photography, digital media, and fine and creative arts and crafts; the provision of equipment and facilities for artists; the conduct of instructional programs; and the stimulation of public understanding and awareness through exhibitions, demonstrations, and sales.

Pittsburgh Filmmakers is one of the largest and oldest independent media arts centers in the country. Founded in 1971 to provide media-making tools to artists, Pittsburgh Filmmakers serves everyone from emerging artists to established artists to fellow non-profit organizations and students. Our Three Rivers Film Festival is the region's largest annual film event.

Pittsburgh Filmmakers is a nonprofit corporation designed to encourage the creation and understanding of media for noncommercial artistic and literary purposes. To this end, Filmmakers offers a curriculum of courses in film, video, and photography to university and independent students in the Pittsburgh region. Filmmakers also exhibits the work of prominent photographers and filmmakers in its two galleries, Melwood Screening Room, Regent Square Theater and Harris Theater. A key component of Filmmakers’ mission is to provide equipment access and funding for independent media artists.

Pittsburgh Center for the Arts (est. 1945) fosters a vibrant contemporary arts scene in southwestern Pennsylvania by promoting creativity and accessibility to all forms of visual art. In addition to its studio arts programming, PCA exhibits work by contemporary regional artists; supports, promotes and sells their work to the public and offers a variety of arts education programs to schools and community organizations.

In January 2006, Pittsburgh Filmmakers merged with Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.
